’twas the… political poems

// October 30th, 2008 // No Comments » // what?!

I usually try to stay pretty neutral in politics on the web and such. I keep my Facebook profile and such clean. But this morning I got a ‘Twas the Night Before Elections poem in my email that bashed Obama and included specific reference to the claim that he’s a socialist. I won’t go into all that. I searched the poem on Google and found it spattered all over the web. I instantly searched to see if I could find a poem against McCain and only found one that was riddled with slang and such. So, I decided to write my own for fun. Here it goes…

‘TWAS THE MORNING OF ELECTIONS

‘Twas the morning of elections
And all through the land
People were cheering
The occasion was grand!

I, in my ‘jamas
Watching polls all around
‘Cain and Palin were down
What a glorious sound!

When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I saw there on my TV
Palin expressing her joys.

She knew she was a joke
And McCain was too old.
They both were so greedy
But we just couldn’t be sold.

‘Cain couldn’t believe it
His beady eyes rolled.
He grunted, stirred and wavered.
His expression turned cold.

We’ve seen through all the B.S.
We’re sick of all this debt!
We need a change in strategy
We’ll be out of Iraq yet!

Oh Palin and ‘Cain,
And you so called mavericks!
Did you really think we citizens
Would fall for bad ad tricks?

What a bunch of nonsense!
That ‘Bama’s Socialist or Muslim
We all know Palin’s slow
What’s everyone else’s excuse, hmm?

We all have a chance
For change we desperately need!
Far too long we’ve been strangled!
Get out vote! We’ll be freed!

google for good

Poverty levels continue to rise. According to the US Census Bureau, in 2007, 27.3 million people were in poverty, which rose from 36.5 million in 2006 ( US Census ). With this economic recession, there’s no doubt, these numbers will most likely soar. And that’s only the United States.

According to the site, Global Issues – Poverty Facts and Stats, “Almost half the world – over three billion people – live on less than $2.50 a day” and over 80% of the human population lives on under $10 a day. The stats continue for pages and pages.

So, what to do? In an age where google is now used commonly as a verb, you can type in any number of searches: ‘donate,’ ‘poverty,’ ‘funraisers,’ ‘charity,’ etc. I searched for ‘donate food.’ Here’s a couple of the results I got: (more…)
