my morning internet excursion – twitter

The internet is amazing. There is soooo much you can do. Of course it’s evolving every day and I keep finding out new and exciting features that are hidden and just waiting to be discovered.

First, Twitter. It’s a crazy idea, but it’s cool at the same time. And it’s amazing. I’ve been using it off and on for a few months now. I usually only ever remember to login to the site a couple of times a week. Yesterday I read an article on ReadWriteWeb yesterday, titled How We Tweet: The Definitive List of the Top Twitter Clients. They ended up with a list of the top 20 ways in which people submit and track their tweets. I had only ever used #1, the web, #12, Twitter Tools through my WordPress blog, and #19, Facebook.

I am continually surprised at how popular Twitter has gotten. I think the first time I saw it was on an amazing blog, Fimoculous. I was so surprised that the writer was able to have updates of what he was doing at almost any point in the day. “I’m waiting in line.” “I’m eating breakfast.” Etc.

After reading the forementioned article about all the different ways to tweet, I decided to return to my settings on Twitter. I recently switched cell service to Verizon and chose a plan with unlimited texting. I decided I could finally test out the texting option so I set it up, sent a text….and my twitter was updated immediately!

Okay…next. The IM client. They have three options: GoogleTalk, Jabber, or LiveJournal. I’ve had several Gmail accounts forever so I decided to try it. I added my most frequently used Gmail/Gtalk account to my Adium client. Next I added Twitter as a friend, sent it a message and BAM, my twitter is updated. I don’t think it’s something I would use in LiveJournal since I barely use my account. But I decided to also create a Jabber username with my Jabber hosting through DreamHost. Crazy.
