useful browser for the everyday surfer

In this month’s MacWorld there was a great article that compared 10 different browsers on several different levels. I usually use Safari or Firefox…sometimes IE if I need to test a site out. Safari received one of their highest ratings, a 4.5. A browser that I had never heard of ranked just the same, Flock. I decided to check it out.

The article boasted about Flock’s capability to access Feeds, Social Networks, Blogs, etc. just with a click of the mouse on a constantly updated sidebar. Very cool.

At first, the Flock interface is a little cheesy for my tastes. Lots of big blue buttons everywhere. The sidebar got to me at first, but after I started tweaking things, I found that you can customize it pretty easily to fit your own needs. The feed browser is much nicer than ones that I have used in the past.

The sidebar also features quick updates of your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc. I use Facebook at least once a day, but I’m not so sure I need to see constant updates on what my friends are doing. The Twitter updates are nice, but again, I don’t really need second-to-second updates.

Actually, this built-in blog editor is pretty cool. I don’t really need to go into my WordPress backend if I’m not changing around the theme or categories or such. Hopefully this posts alright with no problems. I’ll leave an update.

So far, Flock is an impressive browser with lots of built-in options and easy tweaking. Thanks again MacWorld!

UPDATE: Alright…the built-in blog editor never really came through. Not sure if it’s the browser or my connection or server settings on my blog. Another cool feature I forgot to mention though is “My World.” A homepage landing spot that showcases the latest headlines for your feeds, social networking updates and some of your other “favorite” content.
