recommended articles – from this month’s WIRED

This month’s WIRED Magazine had some really great articles (as usual). Among my favorite reads this month was WIRED’s Geekster Handbook, a Field Guide to the Nerd Underground. The six categories were as follows: The FanBoy, The Music Geek, The Gamer, The Gadget Guy, the Hacker, The Otaku. Although there are parts of several descriptions that I could associate with (The Music Geek and The Gamer), I have to say The Gadget Guy (or Girl  ) description fit me pretty much all the way:

4. The Gadget Guy - Disposition: Sociable while waiting in line on launch day; ferocious in comments on Gizmodo. Seemingly unflappable in the face of early adopter’s remorse (aka Apple Newton Syndrome). Beliefs: I can fix that. There’s no god but MacGyver. The price will drop in a month, but I need it now.Turn-Ons: Unboxing videos. Backup batteries. Blue LEDs. Laser pointers. People who RTFM. Things that make loud clicking sounds. (Quoted from forementioned WIRED Magazine article.)

Thank God for shiny electronics.

Another great article was titled Study: Just Thinking About Apple Boosts Creativity. Lol. Crazy. Guess I’m pretty set since I stare at a Apple computers for a good part of each and every day.

For anyone out there who reads Engadget and Gizmodo posts every day. Gear Blog Rivals Engadget and Gizmodo Turn the Competition Up to 11 was pretty interesting.

Okay, and one last one…this one creeped me out. Definitely something I will be spending some time researching: Clive Thompson on Why the Next Civil Rights Battle Will Be Over the Mind.

Alright, that’s it for now.
